October 28 thru 30

Riders: Tommy, Mike & Amelia, Mike & Rhonda, Bob & Wanda

Destination: BMWMOAL meeting Nauvoo, AL

Comments: Club members arrived at various times on Friday to attend the monthly meeting of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Alabama club meeting. The weather was cold, cloudy, and damp. The weather forecast for the weekend was going to be much better.

Saturday began cold but sunny. Mike S., Mike B., and Tommy took a ride through the William Bankhead National Forest. We stopped in Double Springs to view the statue of Civil War soldier that was clad in half Union and half Confederate uniforms. The city was split between the two sides during the war and the statue honors those on both sides. We then stopped for lunch in Mouldon, AL. The return loop took us through the town of Phil Campbell which was heavily damaged by a tornado this past spring.

A short motorcycle parade and photo op was followed by a delicious meal. There was music and dancing followed by a fantastic firework show put on by Mike Bauman and his helpers. The show included a roll of 16,000 firecrackers which was strung out almost the length of a city block which lasted nearly :30.

We awoke with a good frost on the bikes. The weather did warm up for the ride home.
